Timi Yuro (born Rosemary Timotea Yuro, August 4, 1940 in Chicago, Illinois - died March 30, 2004 in Las Vegas, Nevada) was an American soul and R&B singer. She is considered to be one of the first blue-eyed soul stylists of the rock era. According to her record label, Liberty Records, Yuro moved with her family to Los Angeles. There, she sang in her parents' Italian restaurant and in local clubs before catching the eye and ear of record executives. Signed to Liberty, she had a U.S. Billboard No. 4 single in 1961 with "Hurt", an R&B ballad that had been an early success for Roy Hamilton. On "Hurt" and on her Billboard No. 12 follow-up in 1962, "What's a Matter Baby (Is It Hurting You?)", Yuro showed an emotional but elegant vocal style that owed a debt to Dinah Washington and other black jazz singers. Many listeners in the early 1960s thought Yuro was black. She opened for Frank Sinatra on his 1961 tour of Australia. In 1963, Liberty released Make the World Go Away, an album of country and blues standards. The singer at her vocal peak, this recording includes a powerful title track of the same name, a beautifully understated version of Willie Nelson's "Permanently Lonely", and two different blues takes of "I'm Movin' On". Yuro was also known for soulful reworkings of popular American standards, such as "Let Me Call You Sweetheart", "Smile", and "I Apologize". In the 1960s, Yuro made two TV appearances on The Ed Sullivan Show and was a guest on American Bandstand, Where the Action Is, and The Lloyd Thaxton Show. In 1967, Yuro appeared in a black-and-white film in the Philippines as a guest star alongside Filipino comedians Dolphy and Panchito in a comedy titled Buhay Marino (Life of a Sailor). At that time, the singer was very popular in the Philippines. By the late 1960s, Yuro had performed in venues from London to Las Vegas. However, her career soon lost its early momentum, and she quit the music business altogether after her marriage in 1969. When Yuro began to sing again in the 1980s, her doctors detected throat cancer. Her larynx was eventually removed and in 2004 she died of cancer. Her last recording was the 1984 CD Timi Yuro Sings Willie Nelson, produced by her old friend Nelson. Yuro's work is admired in the United States as well as in Great Britain and the Netherlands. According to the obituary in the Las Vegas Sun, her hometown paper, Yuro's most famous fan was probably Elvis Presley, who commanded his own table at the casino where Yuro headlined in the late 1960s. (Presley had a Top 10 country hit with his 1976 version of "Hurt".) In April 2004, Morrissey announced Yuro's death on his official website, describing her as his "favorite singer". (Morrissey also recorded a version of Yuro's "Interlude" with Siouxsie Sioux in 1994.) P.J.Proby knew Timi Yuro from their time in Hollywood, and often mentions it during his performances of "Hurt".

Kitty Foxx (born Alice Janette) was raised in a small rural town in southern Illinois. She went to school there and graduated from high school in 1960. After attending college she met her husband Arthur Allen Hergett in 1964. They gave birth to a daughter, who in turn gave the Hergetts two granddaughters. The Hergetts moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1978 where Foxx worked as a beautician until 1983. Later that same year she became a topless showgirl on the Las Vegas Strip. Kitty and her husband have been "swinging" for 39 years and she estimated that she had sex with more than 15,000 men during that time. Foxx claimed that she tried to have sex with at least 3 men every day, and cited once to have had sex with 38 men in a gangbang at a bachelor party. In 1989 she appeared in a nude photo layout of a men's magazine. She was asked if she would be interested in being in a porn movie the following year. She jumped at the chance and agreed. In 1990, Foxx made her debut in the film "Nympho Heaven". She loved having sex in the movies so much that she quickly decided to be a porn actress for as long as men would desire to have her. Foxx made about 20 movies a year and has starred in more than 400 adult films. She is also well known for her lesbian scenes in those films. Her most popular series of films are the "Aged to Perfection" films in which she starred. Foxx was also the founder of "Over 50" Magazine and appeared in every one of the magazine's issues. Foxx was riding high in her success, but later on, Foxx's woes and troubles would start to take their toll on her life. Reportedly, Foxx had suffered from a problem with substance abuse and admitted herself into rehabilitation for treatment. Foxx suffered an aneurysm in December 2003, then suffered a stroke in January 2004. Foxx once established her official website, but it was shut down in March of 2005. Arthur, her husband of 41 years, died on May 1, 2005 at the age of 66. After his death, their daughter decided to keep her mother out of the public eye, by refusing any attempts made by people of the porn industry in contacting her. On September 21, 2006, Kitty Foxx died at her home in Las Vegas, Nevada. The cause of death was due to complications from a stroke, Foxx was 64 years old. Foxx's daughter was ultimately ashamed and disgusted by her mother's life as a swinger and a porn star. For that, her mother's obituary in a local Las Vegas newspaper reads that Foxx (obiturized under her real name) died as a beautician. Kitty Foxx will be remembered as a loving mother, a devoted wife, and a loving grandmother. The porn industry will remember Kitty Foxx as one of the industry's greatest porn actresses, and as the proclaimed name, "The Grandmother of Porn". In the end, she will be missed by all.

The two were a couple straight outta '50s tabloid heaven: Mr. Universe of 1955 and his bombshell wife, who kept playing stereotypes of the bottle-blonde bimbo variety (I know, I know, they say her real-life IQ was MENSA level). Mickey was born Miklos some 80 years ago in Hungary, but came to prominence in show biz circles when he worked in Mae West's nightclub act (Ms. West knew who her main audience was, always did). If I'm not mistaken, she pegs Hargitay as one of the "body beautifuls" who had a fistfight over her back then; in any case, he soon graduated to Jayne, with whom he worked in three fine pieces of trash cinema, "The Loves of Hercules" (kill that tree, man!), "Promises! Promises!" and "Primitive Love." Of course, these days he's been best known as the dad of the quite fine TV actress Mariska Hargitay of "Law and Order: YouTryandRememberWhichOneItIs" (what is the deal there ? the perfect kitsch couple produces a credible perfomer? A recessive gene?). The Hargitay fan most touted in his obits was the one, the only Governator, Arnold Schwarzenegger, who surely was glad he didn't fall into the "Bloody Pit of Horror" roles that Mickey did, but whose own impenetrable accent made him a natural to play the earlier Mr. Universe in the perfectly awful TV-movie "The Jayne Mansfield Story." There is a blissful dance-remix novelty tune that incorporates bad dialogue from that movie, repeating it over and over ? this is how I got the Arnold-spoken line into my poor overcrowded brain, "Yoooor not sa Chane I marrreed!!!" [You're not the Jayne I married!] I was debating which clip from the above trilogy of truly wondrous camp classics I would use to pay tribute to the big guy, but then I just decided I'd offer up a short bit from a TV appearance from the top-notch program "Hollywood Backstage," which first ran in the early/mid 1960s. It was quite an amazing program, and when Jayne and Mickey needed to some quick hyping for Mickey's workout book and his home-exercise machines, they could do no better than to come on the show and be interviewed poolside by Variety columnist and constant H'wood hanger-on, Army Archerd. The usual wonderful "cut-in" close-ups are featured, as are some wonderfully, um... anatomical framings of both Mickey and Jayne (guess, they wanted to please both sides of the street on that one). The Mickey stuff is simply beefcake on display, while the Jayne exercsises gets into that show-the-big-chested-girl-from-a-low-angle technique that was used in a wonderfully incompetent way by Doris Wishman, and to a fine turn by Russ Meyer. I can say nothing more than the fragments above do indeed give you their home address, if you wanna go and sightsee next time you're in L.A. He may not have been a great actor, but what other bodybuilder could've backed up his wife so well on her LP "Jayne Mansfield Busts Up Las Vegas"? (Okay, okay, it doesn't hold a candle to her "Shakespeare, Tchaikovsy & Me," but what does?) They don't make celebrities like this anymore....
